QUESTIONS and ANSWERS
[ORIGIN]
How long have Connect Exhibitions been around?
We started the company in 1999, originally manufacturing and renting our units from our base in Ealing, London.
[IDEA]
Where did you get the original idea from?
Our Managing Director, Edward Knight, developed the idea by combining two key parts of his life - at the time, he was working as a builder and carpenter, and a few years earlier he had earned a Fine Art Painting degree from Canterbury College of Art.
His experience, organising and installing his own exhibitions in central London made him realise just how much artists needed practical, reliable support - and that’s where the concept began.
[DESIGN]
What was the first unit like?
The first unit was over-engineered and far too heavy.
In fact,
it ended up sitting in the garden of the house the MD (Edward Knight) was renting at the time in Greenford. It was so heavy it remained there,
untouched, for another two years - until he
began working on the second version (still too big!) with his friend John, this time in his mother’s garage.

[MANUFACTURE]
You only manufacture the wall units now - Why?
We left London and moved to Canterbury in 2015, which meant hiring was no longer an option.
A few months earlier, we had already decided to focus solely on manufacturing so we could devote our time to creating the best design possible. This was when we redesigned the unit and introduced what became the newer Connect60 system.
[USES]
What can the Connect60 system be used for?
With their clean, white appearance, they’re ideal for exhibiting artwork — while remaining versatile enough to be used for many other purposes.
They work equally well as room dividers, office walling, shop window backdrops, garden-centre galleries, storage rooms, and even as flats for theatre productions — so versatile they were once used as a maze for a TV production!
[LOGO]
Why do you have an orange butterfly as you logo?
Well, the butterfly is a beautiful, lightweight, natural display system for the world.
There have been rumours - a bit like at Apple in the 70's - that the orange butterfly logo might one day evolve into a rainbow butterfly, and again just like at Apple, we’ve been “in discussions” for the past three years, with a CEO board meeting scheduled… (joke).
[EDUCATION]
Can the units be used for Schools and Colleges?
The connect60 systems are lightweight, easy to move, safe and solid, making them a trusted and popular choice for schools and colleges.
Schools - they find the units incredibly useful, quickly recognising their value across multiple departments and different uses - the poplar ply surface is ideal for pinning student work, with staples removing cleanly and easily!.
Colleges - love the system, replacing old, heavy and unattractive boards because the connect60 system delivers a far more professional, gallery-like solution. For degree shows, there is no better system - Connect Exhibitions was founded by supplying and renting panels to colleges for end-of-year degree shows (Truman Brewery, London).
Students and Parents - always appreciate them because hard work is presented professionally and showcased at its very best.
Staff - love the lightweight system60, which stores neatly together - no more heavy lifting or back-ache!
